A 26-year-old woman in Maharashtra ended her life along with her five-year-old daughter by jumping into a well because she was unable to send her two children to a CBSE-affiliated school due to the shortage of money, as per the media reports. The incident was held at a place called Malegaon in Nilanga tehsil of central Maharashtra's Latur district two days ago. The report for the accident was registered at the Aurad Shahajani police station on Wednesday.
The dead bodies were identified as Bhagyashree Venkat Halse, a 26-year-old woman and Samiksha Venkat Halse, a 5-year-old girl (Child). The husband of that woman owned one-and-half acres of land and the family's livelihood mainly depended on herding goats. One of the family members said to the police that she wanted to send her son and daughter to a CBSE-affiliated school, which was beyond their income capacity. There she was depressed because of this situation for a long period, said her family members to the police. Also, her mother died last year, which increased her depression level.
On Tuesday evening, around 5:30 PM, the woman with her daughter went to a well owned by some other farmer. She also made a video call to her husband, Venkat Halse at the last moment, telling him to see their daughter's face for the last time and then jumped into the well along with her daughter. Later local residents when saw the dead bodies called the police. The woman also tried to kill her son along with them, who was playing but he slipped away and hence was able to escape, as per the statement by the family members.
