Union Budget 2026: Nirmala Sitharaman to Present Ninth Consecutive Budget on Feb 1; A Record-Breaking Moment
The Union Budget 2026-27 is likely to be presented on February 01, 2025 (Sunday), by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, as usual. This comes even though there was some uncertainty earlier about whether the budget would be presented on Saturday, 31 January, or Monday, 2 February, instead.
The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, has approved the proposal of calling both the Upper and Lower Houses of Parliament for the Budget 2026 session. The Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the budget 2026 session has been set to commence on January 28, 2026, and will conclude on April 02, 2026. The first phase of the same will end on February 13, 2026, with Parliament reassembling on March 09, 2026.
This is the ninth time Nirmala Sitharaman will present the budget in India. Next year, she is expected to match Morarji Desai’s record of presenting 10 budgets. So far, she is the only finance minister who has presented nine consecutive budgets.
Budget 2026 will be the second complete budget under the Narendra Modi government in its third term. The previous year, after the government came back to power, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget in July.
