United Breweries Receives Rs. 31.88 Crore GST Order Over Leasehold Rights; Plans to Appeal
United Breweries Limited has disclosed that it has received a GST order dated February 26, 2026, issued by the Commissioner of CGST & Central Excise, Raigad, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, imposing a demand amounting to Rs 31.88 Crore (GST of Rs 15.94 crore and an equivalent penalty). The company had received the said order on March 12, 2026.
The demand relates to the tax treatment of the assignment of leasehold rights and a classification dispute regarding NAB. Since there was regulatory uncertainty at the time when the leasehold rights were sold, the company had already deposited Rs 11.12 Crore under protest before the proceedings began.
The company has stated that it is not satisfied with the aforementioned GST demand order and is planning to challenge the same before the appropriate judicial authority. It further clarified that the issuance of the aforementioned order does not impact its financial, operational, or other activities.
The company has made the aforementioned disclosure under Regulation 30 of SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015 (‘SEBI Listing Regulations’).
