UPI Outage for Second Time in April: NPCI Says 'working to resolve the issue'
Several users across the country experienced failed UPI transactions on April 12, 2025. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which manages the UPI network, has acknowledged the matter and said that it is due to technical issues.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), NPCI wrote, "NPCI is currently facing intermittent technical issues, leading to partial UPI transaction declines. We are working to resolve the issue and will keep you updated. We regret the inconvenience caused."
This is the second time the UPI server has been down in April. A similar outage was reported on April 2, when users faced difficulty and delays on some bank servers. This was a day after April 1, when banks witnessed some procedural issues owing to the closing of the financial year.
The outage monitoring website Downdetector showed that users first started seeing issues with the payments interface at about 11:50 a.m. on Saturday (April 12, 2025). The number of complaints around 1 p.m. was above 2,300 people. According to the website, 81% of the users complained about problems relating to payments, 17% fund transfers and 2% purchases.
NPCI has assured that its technical teams are actively working to restore services.
