UPSC Recruitment 2025: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is inviting interested and well-motivated candidates for various posts opened in Geo-Scientist in Category-I (Posts in the Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines) and Category-II (Posts in the Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation). There are 85 vacancies opened for UPSC Recruitment 2025. The appointment will be made on a temporary basis in the first instance. Candidates applying for the mentioned opportunity should not be less than 21 years and not more than 32 years of age as on the 1st day of the month of January of the year in which the examination is to be conducted.

For Geologist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India:

  • A Master’s degree in Geological Science, Geology, Applied Geology, Geo-exploration, Mineral Exploration, Engineering Geology, Marine Geology, Earth Science and Resource Management, Oceanography and Coastal Areas Studies, Petroleum Geosciences, or Geochemistry from a university established by an Act of Parliament, an educational institution recognized by section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 (3 of 1956), or any combination of these is required of the candidates.

For Geophysicist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India and Scientist ‘B’ (Geophysics) Group ‘A’ and Assistant (Geophysicist) Group ‘B’ in C.G.W.B:

  • The candidates should hold an M.Sc. in Physics, Applied Physics, Geophysics, or Integrated M.Sc. (Exploration Geophysics), or an M.Sc. (Applied Geophysics), Marine Geophysics, or Technology (Applied Geophysics) from an Indian state legislature, a university established by an Act of Parliament, or another educational institution recognized by the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 as a deemed university.

For Chemist Group ‘A’ in the Geological Survey of India and Scientist ‘B’ (Chemical) under C.G.W.B:

  • The candidates must hold an M. Sc. in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, or Analytical Chemistry from a university that was recognized by the State Legislature, an Act of Parliament, or another educational institution that was established by an Act of Parliament and designated as a university under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.

For Scientist ‘B’ (Hydrogeology) Group ‘A’ and Assistant (Hydrogeologist) Group ‘B’ in C.G.W.B:

  • The candidates must hold a master’s degree in geology, applied geology, marine geology, hydrogeology, or other related fields from institutions of higher learning established by parliamentary decree, universities incorporated by act of the Central or State Legislature of India, or universities recognized as universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.

For Assistant (Chemist) Group ‘B’ in C.G.W.B:

  • A master’s degree in chemistry, an integrated master’s degree in chemistry, applied chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, inorganic, organic, hydro-, or industrial chemistry from an accredited university or institute is required of the candidates.

Application Fee for UPSC Recruitment 2025:

According to the official notification of UPSC Recruitment 2025, the candidates (excepting Female/ SC/ ST/ Persons with Benchmark Disability Candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay a fee of Rs.200 along with the submission of Online Application Form, either by remitting the money in any Branch of State Bank of India or by using Visa/ Master/ RuPay Credit/ Debit Card/ UPI Payment or by using Internet Banking of any Bank.

Selection Procedure for UPSC Recruitment 2025:

According to the official notification of UPSC Recruitment 2025, Candidates are selected through the examination process i.e. Preliminary (Phase-I), Main (Phase-II), and Interview/Personality Test.

  • The Union Public Service Commission will hold a Screening Test for
    selection to the Combined Geo-Scientist (Main) Examination, 2025 through the Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Examination, 2025 which will be held on 9th February 2025 as per the Rules published by the Ministry of Mines in the Gazette of India dated the 4th September 2024.
  • Applications are now invited for the Preliminary Examination only. Candidates who will be declared by the Commission to have qualified in the Preliminary Examination will be allowed to take the Combined GeoScientist (Main) Examination. The Main Examination will be held on the 21st & 22nd June 2025. The Main Examination will be held at the following Centres :
    • Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Dispur (Guwahati), Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Shimla

Plan of Examination:

the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination will consist of three successive stages as the selection procedure:

  • Stage I – Candidates for the Combined Geoscientist (Main) Examination are chosen through the two-paper Combined Geoscientist (Preliminary) Examination (Objective type). The final merit will be determined by adding up the marks received in the preliminary examination.
  • Stage II – Three papers comprise the Combined Geoscientist (Main) Examination (Descriptive Type), which is used to choose candidates for the Stage III Personality Test. The final merit will be determined by adding together the marks received in the Main Examination.
  • Stage III – Personality Test/ Interview

How to Apply for UPSC Recruitment 2025:

As per the official notification of UPSC Recruitment 2025, interested and eligible candidates may apply online by filling out the application form available on the official website of UPSC and submitting it to the same portal.

The applicant must register through the One Time Registration (OTR) platform, which is accessible on the Commission website, before filling out the online application for the test.

An OTR only needs to be registered once in a lifetime. This can be done anytime throughout the year. If the candidate is already registered, he/she can proceed straightway to filling up the online application for the examination.
