At an age when most teenagers are still thinking about their future careers, Lakshmanan Meyyappan had already completed a professional accounting qualification. Guinness World Records has recognised Meyyappan as the world’s youngest male chartered accountant. He achieved the record in Dubai at the age of 16 years and 141 days.

Meyyappan’s interest in finance began during the COVID-19 pandemic, shortly after he completed his Class 10 board exams. At the age of 15, he started studying for the ACCA qualification and completed it in about a year.

His academic journey did not stop there. Meyyappan later completed the CFA qualification and is now pursuing an MSc in Finance. He also works as a Senior Research Analyst at Century Financial in Dubai. His job involves studying investments, conducting financial research and analysing financial markets.

Meyyappan’s interest in accounting started at home. According to an earlier PwC Academy profile, his mother, who is also an ACCA, introduced him to basic accounting during the COVID-19 lockdown. This encouraged him to take up the qualification himself.

Apart from academics and finance, Meyyappan also has a creative interest. In his free time, he enjoys designing and building watches.

Speaking about his Guinness World Records achievement, Meyyappan said that the milestone is important to him, but he never treated his qualifications as a race. He said his main goal was to understand how finance works in the real world and develop skills that would remain useful in the long term. He also added, " When learning is driven by curiosity rather than speed, the outcome is far more meaningful"

Meyyappan’s journey shows that students can explore professional qualifications soon after school. His experience also highlights that careers in accounting and finance can offer several paths beyond a traditional degree.
