Why Banks Remain Shut for 3 Days

May 9, 2025, will be a bank holiday in West Bengal to celebrate Rabindranath Tagore’s birthday, or Rabindra Jayanti. It is an important cultural festival of the state. Tagore was a great Bengali poet and Nobel winner. The citizens of West Bengal celebrate this day with music, cultural activities, and festivities. On this day, not just banks but also most government offices and private organizations remain shut.

May 10, 2025 will witness Indian banks and West Bengal banks closed as it is the second Saturday of the month. Banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month according to Reserve Bank of India rules.

Banks on May 11, 2025, which is a Sunday, will be closed as a weekly holiday.

So, people in West Bengal will get a three-day weekend due to a mix of a cultural holiday along with regular weekly offs.

Digital Banking Services Won't Halt

Even though bank branches would not be functioning, clients can continue to make use of digital banking services. These include:

• Net Banking to view balance, obtain statements, or transfer money.
• Mobile Banking Apps to transfer money through UPI or IMPS and bill payments.
• Cash withdrawal or deposit ATMs, depending on availability.
• UPI Apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, or Paytm to send or receive money, except during maintenance hours.

So, even on the three-day bank holiday, customers can continue to do most of their banking online or through apps.
