Patna Schools to Remain Closed Due to Heatwaves Condition
The Patna District Administration extended the closing of schools for students up to Class 8th until June 19, 2024, due to the ongoing heatwave conditions in the state. The state is experiencing extreme heat, with temperatures surpassing 44 degrees Celsius in 10 locations on Monday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the heatwave conditions will continue for another two to three days.
“All government and private schools in the district will remain closed for classes up to 8th grade on June 18 and 19,” Patna DM Shirsat Kapil Ashok said in an order on Monday. “During this period, teachers and non-teaching staff will have to report to their schools/offices to perform their duties. Some private schools in the state capital have already extended the summer vacation till June 22, 2024, due to the severe heatwave conditions.”
While Aurangabad logged the highest temperature at 46.9 degrees Celsius, Buxar closely followed at 46.6 degrees Celsius, Dehri and Arwal at 46.4 degrees Celsius each, Bhojpur at 46.2 degrees Celsius, Gaya and Bikramganj at 45.4 degrees Celsius each, Vaishali and Rajgir at 44.3 degrees Celsius, and Nawada at 44 degrees Celsius. “Individuals are advised to dodge heat exposure, stay in cool areas, and prevent dehydration,” said a senior official of the Bihar Disaster Management Department.
