New Subject Launched in UGC-NET Exam as “Ayurveda Biology”, UGC NET December 2024 Notification Soon

UGC NET December 2024: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is soon anticipated to release the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) December 2024 notification. The notification will be released at the official website, ugcnet.nta.ac.in and will include details such as essential dates, the application process, eligibility, admit card, exam pattern, syllabus, exam centres, marks calculation criteria or marking scheme, qualifying marks and cut off criteria. Recently, UGC has introduced a new subject “Ayurveda Biology” to the UGC NET exam. The syllabus for the newly released subject i.e., Ayurveda Biology can be accessed at the website, www.ugcnetonline.in, according to the official notice released on 5th November.

Now with the addition of Ayurveda Biology subject, the UGC NET exam will now be conducted for 105 subjects including, Anthropology, Commerce, Education, Music, Social Work, Defence and Strategic Studies, Home Science, Political Science, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, History, Public Administration, Mass Communication, Women’s Studies, and Population Studies, and many other.

The official notification released by UGC states that “Based on expert committee’s recommendations, the Commission, in its 581st meeting held on 25th June 2024, has decided to add ‘Ayurveda Biology’ as an additional subject from December 2024 onwards to the existing list of subjects of UGC NET. The syllabus of the ‘Ayurveda Biology’ subject is available on the UGC NET website, ugcnetonline.in. This year the exam is expected to be conducted in the second week of December. The aim of introducing Ayurveda Biology’ as a subject was to promote Ayurveda in the Indian educational system. The decision was approved after the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) 581st meeting held on June 25, 2024. Many proposals were served on the favour of this concept by many experts.

The UGC Chairman, Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar, has said, “The introduction of Ayurveda-Biology as a paper in UGC-NET will encourage aspiring students to explore the Sanskrit texts of Āyurveda and integrate the deep knowledge contained in these texts to create a holistic and sustainable model for study and research in contemporary biological sciences.”

Further said, “After completing their PhD programme in Ayurveda-Biology, students will have the opportunity to join universities to conduct research and train future generations of students.”

Last year, the UGC NET 2023 exam was conducted for 83 subjects across 292 cities and a total of 9,45,918 candidates attended the exam, as per the reports. The exam was held from December 2023 to 19th December 2023 and the result was declared on 19 January 2024. After that, the exams were conducted from August 21 to September 4, 2024.
