DRI Seizes 4.7 Kg of Cocaine Worth Rs 47 Crore From Woman’s Luggage in Mumbai
A female passenger arriving from Colombo at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), Mumbai, was caught by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in a major crackdown on drug trafficking. On her arrival, the DRI officials investigated her luggage and found a total of 4.7 kg of cocaine, estimated to be worth Rs 47 Crore in the illegal market.
The woman was hiding the drugs inside the coffee packets with nine pouches containing the white powdery substance. After the preliminary testing with the NDPS field, it was confirmed that the substance was cocaine.
In a well-coordinated operation, the DRI arrested four more members of the drug syndicate. One of them had arrived at the airport to take the consignment, and the other three were involved in the financial, logistic, and distribution network of the smuggled narcotics. These suspects have been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The Investigation is ongoing to identify the larger international network behind the smuggling of drugs.
The international drug smuggling cases are constantly increasing, where Indian women work as couriers. The drugs are often hidden inside food items and common household products, making them harder to detect. The DRI is steadfast in continuing its efforts to crack down on such criminals and is fully committed to the goal of a “Nasha Mukt Bharat“.
