The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified extension of Last date for ELECTORS to intimate Aadhaar Number via issuing Notification.
Ministry has extended the deadline for voluntary linking of Aadhaar and Voter ID from April 1 this year to March 31, 2024.
The Election Commission began a campaign on August 1, 2022, to collect voters' Aadhaar numbers in a voluntary drive, as authorized by the Election Laws (Amendment) Act, 2021.
The Rules state in Rule 26B: Existing voters have a special provision for obtaining an Aadhaar number. Every person whose name appears on the roll may provide his Aadhaar number to the registration officer in Form 6B in line with sub-section (5) of Section 23 of the Act.
Form 6B is the application form via which a voter can inform the Aadhaar number for the purpose of electoral roll authentication.
The Notification Stated, "In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (5) of section 23 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 (43 of 1950), the Central Government hereby makes the following amendment in the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Law and Justice (Legislative Department), number S.O. 2803(E), dated the 17th June, 2022."
In the said notification, for the words and figures, “the 1st April, 2023”, the words and figures, “the 31st March, 2024” shall be substituted.
