What is the PMIS (Prime Minister Internship Scheme)
The PMIS is a program introduced by the Government of India to provide internship opportunities to young people in the country’s top 500 companies. The program provides a chance for young people to gain experience in actual business settings in various industries, which helps them acquire work experience and practical skills.
The PMIS (Prime Minister Internship Scheme) is now open for Round 2 of its pilot phase, which offers over 1 lakh Internship opportunities in top companies in more than 720 districts in India. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs shared this update on 20 February 2025.
The Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has introduced this scheme in the Union Budget 2024-25. The scheme mainly focuses on people aged 21-24 years who are not involved in studying full-time or working. The scheme provides them with a great chance to start their careers.
The first round of the PMIS pilot was introduced on 3 October 2024, with a special website (pminternship.mca.gov.in) where companies could list internship opportunities. The application deadline for Round 1 was 15 November 2024, and the program received over 6 lakh applications.
The last day to apply for an internship in Round 2 for the PMIS pilot is open and you can apply until 12 March 2025.
What is the monthly financial assistance provided to interns in PMIS?
Every intern will get financial assistance of Rs. 5,000 per month, plus a one-time payment of Rs. 6,000. Each internship will include both training and practical experience for at least six months, as stated by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
Insurance Benefits in the PM Internship Scheme
Every intern is given insurance coverage under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana by the Government of India.
Who is eligible to participate in the PM Internship Scheme?
To apply for the PM Internship Scheme, you must:
- Be an Indian citizen.
- Be between 21 and 24 years old (as of the application deadline).
- Do not have a full-time job or be studying full-time (online or distance learning students can apply).
- Have finished at least one of the following: 10th or 12th standard (or equivalent), ITI certificate, Diploma in a polytechnic, A graduation degree such as BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA, B.Pharma, etc.
