Audit of Schools by Delhi Government responding to complaints about unfair fee hike The Delhi government has collected financial audit reports from 600 schools in just seven days, responding to complaints about unfair fee increases across Delhi. Education Minister Ashish Sood said they have sent warning notices to 10 schools that failed to submit audit reports for the past 10 years. "While the previous AAP government got reports from only 75 schools in one year, we got reports from 600 schools in just seven days," he told ANI. Sood promised the Education Department would not allow improper fee increases. "We will create a strong record-keeping system and get tough with such schools. We will check how random fee hikes were approved before and if any dishonest deals happened with the previous government." Many parents and students have been protesting, saying they face harassment and unfair school fee increases. Sood mentioned an important case involving Delhi Public School (DPS), which had taken the government to court. He also stated that "Today is an important day for Delhi education. For the first time, a committee led by a district magistrate visited DPS. The court scolded DPS, and, based on our committee's report, the court has told the DM to make sure students' education continues without problems." He added, "For five years, no action was taken against DPS about education issues. But today, thanks to our DM-led committee and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's government, the court has finally held DPS responsible after five years. We will take strong action based on the committee's findings." Criticizing the previous government, Sood asked why the AAP didn't enforce existing laws about school financial openness. "Why wasn't the 1973 Education Act enforced? Why were some fee increase permissions given randomly? What kind of secret deals were happening under AAP's rule"? Sood said the current government is committed to openness in education. "We plan to collect audit reports from all 1,670 Delhi schools. There will be no room for dishonesty." On Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta ordered an investigation into fee increase complaints after meeting worried parents. She said, "No school should mentally harass parents or students, threaten to expel them, or increase fees without following proper steps." CM Gupta promised her government would work to improve education in the capital. "We want to make sure every child gets a good, modern education," she said.
