Bajaj Auto Receives Rs 76 Lakh Customs Duty Demand Order Over Battery Misclassification
The Bajaj Auto Limited, an Indian multinational automotive manufacturer that primarily develops, manufactures, and distributes motorcycles, scooters, and three-wheeler vehicles, received a demand order worth Rs 76 lakh.
This disclosure was made by Bajaj Auto Ltd under Regulation 30 of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015 (“Listing Regulations, 2015). Through which the company was informed about the receipt of the demand order on December 9, 2025.
The company added that the order was passed by the Commissioner of Customs (Export), New Customs House, Mumbai, under Section 28(4) of the Customs Act, 1962, for misclassification on the import of Li-ion batteries, denying the benefits of Notification no. 51/96. The order has raised demand of differential customs duty amounting to Rs 76,10,620 along with interest, penalty and redemption fine of Rs 60,00,000.
However, the company believes that it has correctly classified and availed the notification benefit, and it will further take appropriate steps to file an appeal against the order. Lastly, the company said that this order does not have any impact on financial, operational or other activities of the Company.
