Bar Council suspends Lawyer for Misleading and Harassing His Landlord
The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana (BCPH) has recently suspended the license of a lawyer for one year as he was accused of harassment, lying about his identity to the landlord. As per the complaint, at the time of renting the property, the lawyer hid his real profession and lied that he was a banker. It was later found out that he was a practising lawyer. He has been accused of purposely not paying rent and harassing his elderly landlord. Additionally, he allegedly demanded money in return for leaving the rented house.
The lawyer's identity has not been revealed by the BCPH. However, the Bar Council has shared that the lawyer was suspended after a complaint was filed by the daughter of a 70-year-old landlord.
The Bar Council also observed that the lawyer tried to threaten and pressure the landlord's family by filing fake criminal cases. Even after being sent several notices, he did not appear before the Council, therefore, resulting in ex parte proceedings against the lawyer.
The lawyer has been restricted from practising law, and he cannot even appear in any court in India for one year.
