CA Held in Jalandhar for Taking Rs. 10 Lakh Bribe

CA Arrested for Accepting Bribe of Rs. 10 Lakh on Behalf of CGST Official
A chartered accountant (CA) has been taken into custody by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) for reportedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 10 lakh on behalf of an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer working as Assistant Commissioner under the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) department, Jalandhar. The CA arrested has been recognised as Gursewak Singh, who resides in Jalandhar.
It has been reported by the local businessman in the ongoing investigation under the CGST Act that a bribe of Rs. 30 lakh was demanded by the chartered accountant in return for providing suitable treatment to his firm.
The flying squad of the Vigilance Bureau set a trap to catch Gursewak Singh red-handed at the moment he was accepting the first installment of Rs. 10 lakh from the businessman as a part of the introductory verification of the complaint registered. The investigation was led in the presence of two independent witnesses.
In accordance with the declarations made by the CA taken into custody, the position of CGST Assistant Commissioner, an IRS officer, is, for now, under inspection.
Under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, in addition to Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), an FIR has been registered against the CA at the VB Flying Squad-1 Police Station in Mohali.
Further investigation is underway, and the Vigilance Bureau has notified us that the criminal will be presented in court.
