Beware of Fake RBI Calls and SBI Rewards App: Important Alert for Bank Users The Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check Unit has warned people about two dangerous scams taking place across India. These scams are tricking bank customers and trying to steal their personal and financial information. One scam includes fake voice calls where the scammers pretend to be from Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The caller says that the person's bank account will be blocked due to some credit card fraud. Then it tells the person to press a number so that they can get more information. This is a trick to steal someone's personal information like bank details or OTPs. These calls are totally fake. The RBI never makes such calls to customers. People are advised not to press any number or share any details. This is a phising scam meant to cheat people by creating fear of fraud in them. Another scam includes a fake mobile app named 'SBI Rewards'. A message is being viral all over the social media, where users are asked to download this app to get rewards. But this app is not from the State Bank of India (SBI). The app contains harmful software (APK files) which can hack the user's phone and steal important data's. SBI has clearly said that it never sends any reward links or apps through SMS or WhatsApp. Users should never download these apps from such links. For keeping yourself safe from these frauds one should:
  • Not trust calls or messages which create panic or ask for personal information.
  • Never download apps from any unknown links or messages.
  • Always check with your bank through official websites or customer care.
  • Don't download and trust banking applications from any other sources than official ap stores like Google Play or Apple's AppStore.

These scams are very dangerous and spreading quickly. People should be careful and keep their money, as well as their personal information, safe. Check every message or call to you before you do anything.
