CA Arrested Accepting Rs. 10 Lakh Bribe For IRS Officer The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) stated on Friday that they held a chartered accountant (CA) red-handed while he was taking a bribe of Rs. 10 lakh, which he was collecting for an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer who works as an assistant commissioner in the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) department in Jalandhar. The CA has been identified as Gursewak Singh, who lives in Jalandhar. According to a spokesperson from the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, the arrest happened after a business owner complained that Gursewak, a chartered accountant, had asked for Rs. 30 lakh as a bribe in exchange for helping the company in an ongoing investigation under the CGST Act.

The spokesperson added that after an initial check of the complaint, a Vigilance Bureau flying squad set up a trap. At the time of this operation, the CA was caught red-handed while he was accepting the first installment of Rs. 10 lakh from the complainant, while two officers were present while he was taking the bribe. The IRS officer is currently being investigated for his involvement in this case. The spokesperson mentioned that an FIR has been filed against the CA under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, as well as Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), at the Vigilance Bureau's Flying Squad-1 police station in Mohali. The accused is set to be presented in court on Saturday, and further investigation is ongoing.
