CBI arrested CGST Superintendent for accepting Bribe of Rs.5 Lakh

The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) has arrested a Superintendent, CGST, Bhiwandi Commissionerate, Mumbai for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.5 Lakh from the Complainant.

A complaint was filed against the CGST Superintendent, Bhiwandi Commissionerate, Mumbai, alleging that he demanded an excessive benefit of Rs.30 lakh for settling a company’s outstanding GST dispute. Later, the accused reportedly agreed to reduce the payment to Rs. 5 lakh.

The CBI set a trap for the accused and caught him red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs.5 lakh from the complainant as the first instalment of the entire bribe. Searches were undertaken at the accused’s office and home locations in Mumbai and Ghaziabad, resulting in the recovery of Rs.42.70 Lakh (approx. ); papers pertaining to movable/immovable assets; and other incriminating documents.

The arrested accused was produced today before the Special Judge for CBI Cases, Mumbai, and he was remanded to police custody till 21.08.2023.
