CBI arrested Delhi Police Head Constable in Bribery Case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a police officer on bribery charges after raiding a south Delhi police station on Saturday. This is the second raid in the area, the last one was at Hauz Khas police station in July.
After a complaint, the CBI has registered a case against a head constable identified as Kamal Kumar posted at the police station, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi.
According to a source, it was claimed that the cop had demanded a bribe of Rs. 20,000 for not causing any interference in the construction of the plot of the complainant's daughter.
The CBI team laid a trap and caught the accused while demanding and accepting the bribe. A team of CBI's anti-corruption bureau unit conducted a raid around 6.30 p.m.
CBI has registered approximately a dozen policemen on bribery charges this year, causing serious questions on the supervision at the district level and above, other than the functioning of Delhi Police's vigilance unit.
Sanjay Arora, Police commissioner suggested to special commissioners and DCPs to have no tolerance for corruption.
In similar cases, an inspector and two other cops were arrested in a raid at GTB Enclave police station in March. After two months, in May, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) from the west district was arrested for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 45,000. A case from the west district was registered against an inspector of special staff, and others on allegations of demanding bribes.
In the same month, the CBI apprehended an ASI along with a head constable for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh to quiet down a cybercrime case against the complainant's husband. In the month of July, a head constable in a Mangolpuri police station was arrested allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000 from a shopkeeper over illegal parking outside his shop.
Furthermore, the agency raided Hauz Khas police station and arrested a cop while accepting a bribe from a complainant. A police official at Mangolpuri police station was arrested for demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the owner of the e-rickshaw charging station.
In earlier days, CBI had charged a sub-inspector at the Cyber police station in Maurice Nagar for allegedly demanding Rs. 4 lakh bribe for not exposing a Loni resident in an alleged arms racket case.
