CBI arrested DY Chief Engineer of Northern Railway and two Private Persons in Bribery case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested deputy chief engineer-II (IRSE 2006), Northern Railways, Charbagh, Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) and a contractor and his son (both bribe providers) in an alleged Rs. 5 lakh bribery on Wednesday.
The accused allegedly demanded a bribe from the said contractor of a private company headquartered in Kosi Kalan, Uttar Pradesh, for displaying undue favour in the expeditious processing of due payments.
Harish Kumar, deputy chief engineer-II, Northern Railways, Charbagh, Lucknow, and Virendra Tomar and his son Prashant Tomar (both bribe givers) of M/s Tomar Construction, Kosi Kalan, Uttar Pradesh, were detained.
On November 7, 2023, a case was filed against ten accused, including Northern Railway employees in Lucknow and others.
According to the CBI, it was alleged that public workers at Northern Railways, Hazaratganj, Lucknow, conspired with private contractors and showed undue favour in authorising payments for variation/ deviation, expedient processing of due payments, in lieu of unlawful payoff.
CBI searches were conducted at the accused's homes in Lucknow, Jaunpur, and Kosi Kalan (Uttar Pradesh), resulting in the recovery of Rs 52 lakh (approximately); locker keys, electronic devices, and incriminating documents.
On Thursday, the arrested accused will appear in court.
