CBI Arrests 5 Govt Officers for Bribery

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended the Deputy Chief Material Manager (Electrical), Material Management Department (Central Railway, Mumbai); Deputy Chief Material Manager (Coaching), Material Management Department (Western Railway, Mumbai), Senior Material Manager (Western Railway), and two private individuals in separate bribery cases.

The first case was filed against the Deputy Chief Material Manager, Material Management Department, Central Railway (HQ), Mumbai, and others, including a private company situated in Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh), as well as two private individuals who were both representatives of the aforementioned private company. It was stated that a representative of a private company situated in Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh) was in the habit of bribing senior railway authorities of Western Railways in exchange for the favor of granting tenders to the companies represented by him.

It was also claimed that the Deputy Chief Material Manager, Material Management Department, Central Railway, Mumbai demanded illegal gratification from said private company situated in Greater Noida (U.P.) by a private person (who functioned as an intermediate between authorities of Central Railway, Mumbai and multiple private companies) in exchange for granting tenders to the said company for material procurement/supply.

Another case was filed against the Deputy Chief Material Manager, Material Management Department, Western Railway (HQ), Mumbai, and others, which includes a private company centered in Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), two marketing managers of a stated private company, a private person, Senior Material Manager, Western Railway, Mumbai, and an official of a private company centered in Kolkata (West Bengal). It was claimed that the abovementioned private person had a habit of bribing senior railway officers of Western Railways to earn the favor of granting tenders to the parties who were represented by him.

It was also claimed that the Deputy Chief Material Manager, Material Management Department, Western Railway (HQ), Mumbai demanded illegal gratification from a private company centered in Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) via said private person (who functioned as an intermediate between the officials of Western Railway, Mumbai and various private companies) in exchange for granting tenders to the company for material procurement/supply.

A trap was set. The Central Railway’s Deputy Chief Material Manager (Electrical), Deputy Chief Material Manager (Coaching), and Western Railway’s Senior Material Manager were arrested while accepting a bribe of around Rs. 70,500. Private Individuals (bribe givers) were also arrested.

The CBI searches were conducted at the accused’s premises in around 12 places, including Mumbai, Kolkata, Greater Noida, Jamshedpur, Ahmedabad, and Vadodara, resulting in the recovery of cash, documents connected to properties, investments, and jewelry, as well as other damning documents/ articles.

All the apprehended accused will be brought before the Competent Court on December 01, 2023.
