The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a Senior Section Railway Engineer, a private individual, for the alleged demand and acceptance of a Rs 15 lakh bribe. The accused is a Chief Signal & Telecommunications Engineer (CSTE) Projects, South Central (S.C.) Railway, Vijayawada.

The CBI had registered a case against the accused, along with four representatives of private companies and Unknown Public Servants and Private Persons, on August 16, 2026, in a bribery case.

The joint venture of two companies had sent information to the CBI that officials of CSTE Projects, South Central Railway, Vijayawada, allegedly changed the dates in the bonus file to favour the joint venture and help get its bonus claim approved.

The case concerns a Rs 179.50 crore Automatic Block Signaling project awarded by South Central Railway to a joint venture of two private companies. The joint venture had claimed a bonus of around Rs 7 crore for completing the work ahead of schedule.

The Managing Director of the private company had allegedly informed the accused Senior Section Engineer that his son would deliver the bribe money while travelling from Visakhapatnam to Vijayawada on August 16, 2026.

The CBI planned a trap to catch the accused red-handed while accepting the Rs 15 lakh bribery amount from the private person as a reward for the sanction and release of the bonus amount to the company of his father. The CBI succeeded in its planning, and the bribery amount was recovered during the trap.

As part of the investigation, the CBI had conducted searches at several locations connected to the accused individual at Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Pithapuram and Hyderabad.

On August 16, 2026, the CBI arrested the accused individual and a private person. As per the reports, they will be represented before the Competent Court at Vijayawada today, August 17, 2026. The probe in the present case is ongoing.
