CBI Filed Case against 5 Hyderabad IT Officials and 1 Private Person for Cheating Taxpayers The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a case against six people, five of whom are officials from the Income Tax Department in Hyderabad and one private Chartered Accountant. The accused officials are two Income Tax Inspectors and three Senior Tax Assistants from various offices in Hyderabad. They purportedly conspired to defraud taxpayers by abusing sensitive information regarding high-income tax refund payments. The accused officials purportedly used information shared within the department of taxpayers who made large refunds and used it to call them for personal benefits. The probe established that the officials in question placed calls to the taxpayers, intimidating them with tough sanctions and forcing them to pay money. The money was allegedly put in the Chartered Accountant's account, acting as an intermediary, before the accused officials benefitted from it. Instead of using their official powers responsibly, they misused their positions to cheat taxpayers and collect illegal money. This was against the law and weakened public trust in the Income Tax Department. Following these allegations, the CBI searched six locations in Hyderabad, including the homes and offices of the accused. During the course of the searches, officials found incriminating documents and other evidence related to the case. The investigation is ongoing, and further legal action will be taken based on the evidence found. The CBI continues to maintain openness and accountability in government bodies and initiate severe action against corruption.
