CBI Registers a Case Against 09 Officials of NHAI and Recovers (Approx.) Rs. 1.1 Crore Gold/Jewellery  The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case against 09 officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) including General Managers, Project Directors, and Managers, as well as 13 others, including private individuals, private companies, and unknown officials/persons. NHAI allegedly granted the projects Surat-Hazira Port Section of NH-06, Kishangarh-Ajmer-Beawar Section of NH-08, and Varanasi Aurangabad Section of NH-02 to a consortium of private businesses between 2008 and 2010, and Special Purpose Vehicles were formed to carry out these three projects. It was also claimed that the said NHAI Officers collected money from private entities during the execution of these three projects. It was further claimed that subcontractors of this private company assisted the cash/money accepted/delivered by falsifying their books of accounts. Around 22 searches were carried out at the residences and offices of the accused across Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. This has resulted in the recovery of around Rs. 1.1 crore in cash, Rs. 49.1 lakh in FDRs, Rs. 4.5 crore in gold/jewelry, and various damning papers from the premises/lockers operated thus far. NHAI officers' names were also found on a number of property documents. The investigation is still ongoing.
