CBIC Reassigns Pending Appeals in Kolkata Zone to Central Excise Officers The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) issued a fresh order dated April 28, 2025, transferring who is to receive particular tax appeals in the Kolkata Zone.

What's new?

Appeals for or after July 1, 2017, under either
  • The Central Excise Act, 1944, or
  • The Finance Act, 1994
These appeals would now be taken care of by particular Central Excise Officers mentioned in the order's attachment.

Why is it occurring?

This change partially corrects a previous order made on April 7, 2025. The reallocation is being carried out by invoking powers borrowed from several tax laws and regulations like the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017.

What happens next?

The new officers will be responsible for transmitting Orders-in-Appeal in such cases under the respective tax legislations
