The CBSE detects huge differences in theory and practical marks. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has taken a serious view of the difference in theory marks and practical marks of students in past years’ results. The board has presently asked the schools to audit internal evaluation methods to ‘ensure the process is realistic and includes considerable value.
CBSE officials said the board identified significant variation between theory and practical marks in certain subjects among 50% of students in over 500 schools. The board has said that the schools need to review their internal exam procedures. The goal is to establish a stronger, clearer, and more reliable framework to ensure that the evaluation process is authentic and contributes significantly to the student’s educational experience.

“Based on past year result statistics, CBSE has detected significant differences between theory marks and practical marks in certain subjects through advanced AI tools in more than 50% of students in about 500 CBSE schools,” the board said in a press note. “This variation highlights the need for careful assessment during practical examinations in schools,” adding to the note.

“The objective is to implement a more robust, transparent and reliable mechanism to ensure that the assessment process is realistic and adds meaningful value to students’ academic journey,” the CBSE press note stated. The recommendation also advised schools to prioritize fairness and accuracy in the marking of practical examinations to improve the quality of education in CBSE-affiliated institutions.
