CBSE Issued Advisory to Schools Regarding Fire Safety Compliances

An advisory for fire safety compliance in schools was released on 5th June 2024 by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

According to Affiliation Bye-Laws 20218 Rule 4.7.7, it is required as follows.

“The School should scrupulously observe prescription from the State Government/Municipal Authority / Transport Department regarding Health & Hygiene, drinking water, fire safety, building safety and transport precautions in the school,”

Any school that wants to avoid an unfortunate incident—especially a fire disaster—must take the appropriate safety procedures. Schools are places where many children congregate, and a single fire occurrence has the potential to damage them all. For this reason, school fire safety measures are crucial.

The following has been expressed:

• Fire safety programs and drills were conducted on a regular basis.
• Fire safety evaluations were conducted on both structural and non-structural levels.
• Mock drills for fire safety and disaster management were conducted.
• Conducted structural and non-structural fire safety audits.
• Ensured that fire extinguishers/alarms were placed, examined on a regular basis, and the Fire Safety Certificate is updated before it expires.
• Followed the standards pertaining to the storage of inflammable and poisonous items in the Chemistry Lab.
• Confirmed compliance with local construction codes.
• Ensured that children and instructors received disaster preparedness and school safety training.
• The schools may provide the action taken report on the OASIS portal by 10th July 2024.
