CBSE Structured Assessment for Analyzing Learning (SAFAL)- 2024-25

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released a Notification on its official website cbseacademic.nic.in. In accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 at para. 4.40, the CBSE introduced Structured Assessment for Analyzing Learning (SAFAL), a competency-based diagnostic assessment, in its affiliated schools in July 2021. SAFAL will take place in July 2024 for students in grades 5 and 8 in schools affiliated with the CBSE. This is a continuation of our continuous endeavours to enhance the quality of education and advance competency-focused learning.

To ensure that this assessment is conducted effectively, the following points should be noted:

  •  SAFAL is a diagnostic test designed to evaluate learners’ attainment of competencies. This isn’t an exam for qualification or certification, nor is it a competition. SAFAL’s main goal is to identify the areas in which additional work is needed to ensure high-quality teaching and learning in the classroom.
  • No additional classes or special preparation are required for SAFAL because it is a competency-based assessment. Learner-centered and competency-focused classroom instruction is adequate.
  • All participating schools will get only the school-level competency reports. The only reports that schools can view will be their own, with no ability to compare them to those of other schools.
  • Neither the public nor any other school will have access to the school-level SAFAL evaluation results. This will guarantee that the results are kept private and that the school can get the most out of the input and results from the SAFAL reports.
  •  Consequently, SAFAL should only be used in this context as a tool for evaluating the teaching-learning procedures used in schools.
  • As per the SAFAL guidelines and standard operating procedures that are periodically issued by the Board, it is the duty of the school authorities to guarantee that the SAFAL evaluation is carried out in their schools with the highest sincerity and honesty.
  • It is emphasized that technological footprints will be documented throughout the administration of this evaluation and that data examination will be done.
