Chief Engineer Caught Hiding Crores During Vigilance Raid in Odisha A shocking incident took place in Odisha; the Vigilance Department has found Rs. 2.1 crore in cash during raids at multiple locations linked to a chief engineer from the state's Rural Development Department. The officer has been under investigation for owning the assets, which doesn't match his known sources of income. This incident took a dramatic turn when the chief engineer desperately threw bundles of Rs. 500 from his Bhubaneswar flat's window just as vigilance officials were arriving. This act caught eyes of everyone and turned into headlines. The raids were carried out at seven places by special teams of vigilance. In this team, there are eight Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), twelve Inspectors, and six Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs). The search started after getting proper warrants from the Special Judge, Vigilance, in Angul. The locations that were under search are:
  • A double-storied house in Karadagadia (Angul)
  • A flat in Dumduma (Bhubaneswar)
  • A flat in Siula (Pipili, Puri)
  • And other properties connected to the officer
Out of Rs. 2.1 crore, Rs. 1 crore was recovered from the Bhubaneswar flat and Rs. 1.1 crore was seized from the house in Angul which were found. Currency counting machines were used by the officials to accurately count the cash amounts. The investigation is still under process. Authorities are looking thoroughly into the officer's properties and financial records to uncover how much alleged illegal wealth he has. Further updates are expected as the case develops.
