CM Stalin writes to the Centre to ensure that the GST portal is available in Tamil

M K Stalin, the chief minister, said on Thursday that he had written to the Centre requesting that the Goods and Services Tax gateway be made available in Tamil. The state government could not give many incentives to merchants following the implementation of GST, according to the CM, who spoke at the 39th traders’ day conference in Trichy.

Stalin described the DMK administration as trader-friendly, saying the Dravidian model rule envisions inclusive growth of small and large businesses. “So they’re not at odds with each other.” Traders should be focused on their business, keeping in mind that one enterprise contributes to the success of another,” he stated. According to the CM, the commercial taxation department generates three-quarters of the state government’s income, and he has understood that the welfare of merchants must be maintained in order to sustain revenue flow.

He also made a number of declarations, including a rise in compensation for family members of deceased welfare board members ranging from 1 lakh to 3 lakh. Compensation for a fire will be increased from 5,000 to 20,000. Stalin stated that he would appoint more members to the Tamil Nadu welfare board in order to expand its powers and speed up social projects. A steering committee will be formed, led by the incoming chief secretary of municipal administration, to develop processes for dealing with rental and other issues concerning local governments’ shops and commercial spaces.

Traders will be able to seek a commercial licence once every three years instead of once a year to run their firm. Priority will be given to traders who lost their stores while on the bridge, metro rail, or other activities.

According to the chief minister, gyms would no longer be required to get a police licence. In a week or two, a new function will be introduced to the Kavalan SOS that will allow traders to report any issue they encounter to the police. The announcement came only days after an extortion group in Perambalur murdered a businessman.

As most commercial businesses in the district were closed for the conference, Ministers K N Nehru, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, and P Moorthy, Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangangalin Peramaippu state president A M Vikkiramaraja, general secretary Ve Govindarajulu, and others attended.
