Data Analytics Helps GST Authority to Track Rs 403 Crore GST Dues The Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) administration is using data analytics to track tax evasion and dues. In one such operation, officers from the Raigad Commissionerate, Mumbai Zone, discovered Rs 675 crore in ITC fraud and have already recovered Rs 403 crore in taxes for the current fiscal year. Anti-evasion units have been able to nail the accused with documentary evidence, leaving less scope for litigation or dispute. Data mining from the GST network and analytics run on it have played a major role in identifying GST fraud across the country, and anti-evasion units have been able to nail the accused with documentary evidence, leaving less scope for litigation or dispute. Neeraj Kansal, Commissioner CGST, Raigad said, "This case is a part of a special anti-evasion drive launched by CGST, Mumbai Zone, against the fraudsters and tax evaders." He was alluding to the most recent example of a fake ITC racket, in which eight people were detained, including the owner of Ashok Metal Scrap, which was involved in obtaining and passing on a fraudulent Input Tax Credit of Rs 12 crore, resulting in bogus invoices totaling more than Rs 64 crore. In the coming days, the department would intensify its crackdown on fraudsters and tax evaders, according to the commissioner.
