Delhi Court Extends Custody of Tax Official and Accountant in Bribery Case A Delhi court has given the CBI two more days to question an income tax official and a chartered accountant arrested for bribery. The pair were allegedly corrupting the "faceless" tax assessment system. The "faceless" system was created by the finance ministry to make tax assessments more transparent. Under this system, taxpayers don't meet or know who their tax assessment officer is. The court extended the custody of tax deputy commissioner Vijayendra R. and accountant D. K. Agarwal after their initial three-day detention ended. The CBI asked for five more days, but the judge only allowed two. The CBI claimed they found new evidence during questioning and needed more time to investigate electronic data. They also want to question other suspects with these two men. Vijayendra's lawyer argued against extending custody, questioning why the CBI needed more time when they already had all the evidence. The investigation shows the two men allegedly contacted taxpayers with high-value cases under review, offering favourable decisions in exchange for bribes. Vijayendra, who joined the tax service in 2015, was arrested in Delhi, while Agarwal was arrested in Gujarat. They must appear in court again on May
