Delhi Government Orders Private Schools to Provide Free Uniforms and Books to EWS, DG, CWSN Students
The Directorate of Education has ordered private schools in Delhi to offer free uniforms, books, and writing materials to students belonging to the EWS, DG, and CWSN categories (students from economically weaker sections, disadvantaged groups, and students with special needs).
This order has come after receiving several complaints from parents and stakeholders who said numerous private unaided schools are not providing these essential items and are demanding money in return for them. Here are the rules those are avoilating.
As per the Directorate of Education released notification dated december 30, 2013, and Rule 8 of the Delhi Right to Education Rules, 2011, all private unaided recognised schools are compulsory to offer free books, uniforms and writing materials to the students belonging to economically weaker sections (EWS), disadvantaged groups (DGs), and children with special needs (CWSN), as per the Right to Education Act, 2009.
District Directors Ordered to Ensure No Money is Demanded in Return of These Materials from Students:
The Directorate of Education has said that any schools going against these directives will bear the possible consequences as per the Delhi School Education Act and Rules, 1973, and the Right to Education Act. District directors have been ordered to take possible actions against schools disobeying the rules set by the Directorate of Education. They are being ordered to ensure no money is demanded from students belonging to EWS, DG and CWSN categories in return for books, uniforms or writing materials.About Author
