DFS Secretary Chairs Meeting to Discuss Financing Challenges in Infrastructure Sector
The Secretary of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Shri M. Nagaraju, on September 11, 2025, chaired a meeting to address challenges and difficulties in funding the Infrastructure Sector in India. The meeting focused on several issues, including the gap in sufficient funding, the hurdles in issuing municipal bonds, the need for improved training and capacity building, and the sufficiency of data on defaults and recoveries.
The participants of the meetings include senior management of major Public Sector Banks, Private Sector Banks, Development Financial Institutions and NBFC-IFCs. In the meeting, some suggestions and steps were discussed regarding the financing.
It was decided that the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID) will discuss these matters with all stakeholders and submit a detailed report to the Department of Financial Services within 15 days.
The NaBFID was introduced to give long-term financing for infrastructure projects and promote the growth of associated bonds and derivatives markets. It focuses on fixing the funding gaps in the infrastructure sector.
