Two Individuals Nabbed in Rs 4.15 Crore GST ITC Fraud

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has apprehended two individuals for using a bogus GST-registered firm to generate and pass fraudulent input tax credit (ITC) amounting to Rs 4.17 crore. The fraud has caused significant loss to the government's (GST department) revenue.
The arrest took place by the EOW's Meerut Sector on July 21, 2026, in connection with an investigation being conducted in Case No. 53/24, originating from FIR No. 51/2024 registered at the Mughalpura police station in Moradabad.
The accused have been identified as Pawan Raghav, son of Shyam Singh Raghav, resident of Uttam Nagar, Delhi, and Mohit Kumar, son of Ramjilal, resident of Sagarpur, Southwest Delhi.
According to the reports, the accused had fraudulently registered a company named M/s Raghav Enterprises in Mughalpura, Moradabad, and also obtained the GST number of the same (GSTIN 09EVZPR5684D1ZI). As the company was fake, it had no genuine business operations. The GST number was generated just to generate and pass fake ITC (Input Tax Credit) worth Rs 4.15 crore.
Documents of Pawan Raghav, including Aadhaar card, PAN card, and Aadhaar authentication OTP, were allegedly used by Mohit to enable fake GST registration of the company. Raghav had himself provided his details to Mohit.
The three accused allegedly used fake documents and false business details to get GST registration. They then issued fake invoices to help buyers claim Input Tax Credit (ITC), even though no goods or services were actually supplied.
During a special operation led by the UP Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Headquarters in Lucknow and supervised by the SP of the EOW Meerut Sector, the investigation team arrested the accused at their office in Meerut on Tuesday.
