FASTag Annual Pass Anticipated to Launch on Independence Day: Freedom from Frequent Toll Payments On August 15, 2025 (on Independence Day), a major update is about to be introduced in FASTage, India's electronic toll payment system. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will begin offering the FASTag Annual Pass on that day. This major update is aimed towards making highway travel easier and at affordable rates for frequent travellers. This update is meant for private cars, jeeps, and vans. Declaring the new pass, the Minister of Road Transport and Highways said, "long-standing concerns regarding toll plazas located within a 60 km range, and simplifies toll payments through a single, affordable transaction. By reducing wait times, easing congestion, and minimising disputes at toll plazas, the Annual Pass aims to deliver a faster and smoother travel experience for millions of private vehicle owners."

What is the FASTag Annual Pass?

The FASTag Annual Pass is a prepaid plan for non-commercial private vehicles only (including cars, jeeps, and vans). Instead of recharging your FASTag multiple times, you pay Rs. 3,000 once, and you can cross toll plazas up to 200 times or travel for one year, whichever comes first. The pass saves time at toll plazas, reduces traffic jams, avoids repeated payments, and does not require a new FASTag; it will be linked to your existing FASTag as long as it is active and linked to your car’s registration number.

Who Can Use It?

Only private vehicle owners (cars, jeeps, vans) are allowed to use this FASTag Annual Pass; not applicable for commercial vehicles. This pass is non-transferable (works with just one vehicle) and can only be used on national highways and expressways run by NHAI/MoRTH.

Where Does It Work?

The FASTag Annual Pass works only on NHAI-run toll roads, including, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Mumbai-Nashik Highway, Mumbai-Surat Route, Mumbai-Ratnagiri Highway, etc. It will not work on toll roads managed by state governments or private companies, including, Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Samruddhi Mahamarg (Mumbai-Nagpur), Atal Setu, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Bengaluru-Mysore Expressway and Ahmedabad, Vadodara Expressway, etc. These are governed by the state authorities and not NHAI. Your FASTag will still work on these roads, but you will be charged the normal toll rate.

How to Buy the FASTag Annual Pass Online

Individuals can buy the FASTag annual pass online from the NHAI/MORTH website by following the steps below:
  • Step 1: Visit the Rajmarg Yatra app or the NHAI/MORTH website.
  • Step 2: Log in using your vehicle number and FASTag ID.
  • Step 3: Make a one-time payment of Rs. 3,000 (via UPI, card, or net banking).
  • Step 4: The pass will be linked to your existing FASTag.
You will get an SMS confirmation once it is activated on August 15.

Rules and Limits

Starting from August 15, the moment your vehicle passes through a FASTag-enabled toll plaza registered under NHAI or MoRTH, the pass will deduct one trip every time. Once you cross 200 trips or 1 year, your pass will automatically be deactivated by the system and will go back to normal pay-per-use FASTag. After that, you will need to buy the new pass again if you want to continue.
