Four Fake ‘Sadhus’ Duped a CA of his Gold Ring in Delhi; Arrested all the Culprits
Four men posing as sadhus duped a Chartered Accountant of his gold ring near Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. The victim, 32-year-old Gagan Jain, had come to Delhi for a conference when the fraudsters, dressed as priests, approached him near a hotel in Aerocity.
Police said the fraudsters claimed to be high priests from the Haridwar Akhara and convinced Jain that his gold ring was defective.
“The accused introduced themselves as high priests from the Haridwar Akhara, claiming to be experts in Vedic knowledge. They told Gagan that his gold ring was defective and needed to be handed over for good fortune,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (IGI) Usha Rangnani.
Jain stated that the priests also offered to apply a tilak on his forehead and persuaded him to hand over his gold ring.
“Fearing their threats, Gagan gave them his ring. The fraudsters told him not to look back or he would face misfortune. Later, realising he had been tricked, he reported the incident to the police,” the officer added.
The police investigated, reviewed CCTV footage, and traced the suspects to Mahipalpur. They arrested Rinku Nath (30), Sahil Nath (22), Rocky Nath (35), and Vickey Nath (31), who all admitted to the crime. The suspects also confessed to impersonating sadhus to cheat people. Police said they are relatives and belong to the Sapera community.
