Fraudsters Sending Fake Messages and Threatening Emails to Chartered Accountants A Chartered Accountant has recently raised issues about a serious data leak case, claiming that the phone numbers of CAs have been shared with scammers. CA Atul Modani shared a post on the platform X, warning the CA professionals to beware of this scam. In this scam, the fraudsters are sending fake messages with having Zip File on WhatsApp and Emails, targeting the Chartered Accountants.

In the tweet, the Modani suggested that the Phone numbers might have leaked from either the database of the Income Tax Department or the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). These leaked details are allegedly being used by Election Candidates. He also shared some of the screenshots where the scammers have sent fake emails and WhatsApp messages to CAs. In one of the screenshots shared by Atul Modani, a ZIP file named "November Statement.zip" was sent on WhatsApp, which claimed to be a reconciliation statement. "Please find attached the reconciliation statement for November. Kindly review and verify it at your earliest convenience," the message said. In another screenshot, an email was sent threatening to take serious legal action if the recipient does not respond within 24 hours. The email mentioned that it was sent from the "Chief Executive Officer (CBI)," Mr Rajesh Kumar. However, this is a scam.

Many other users also replied to this tweet shared by Modani, where they shared screenshots of such messages. The Chartered Accountant Society of Surat has already sent a representation to the ICAI president raising this concern. Therefore, if you are a CA and you receive such suspicious messages, like APK files, it is important not to open such files. Be careful and protect your personal information.
