Government Notifies Policy Change Conditions for Importing Sulfadiazine API

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has made a change to the import policy condition of Sulfadiazine API covered under Chapter 29 of ITC (HS), 2022. Sulfadiazine API is a chemical used in antibiotic medicines. As per the official notification (No. 41 /2025-26, dated 10th October, 2025) issued by the government, the import of Sulfadiazine API at CIF value less than Rs 1,774 per kg will now be ‘Restricted’ until September 30, 2026. The changes are applicable with immediate effect.

In exercise of powers conferred by Section 3 and Section 5 of Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, read with paragraph 1.02 and 2.01 of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023, as amended from time to time, the Central Government hereby amends the Import Policy Condition of the following HS codes covered under Chapter 29 of ITC (HS), 2022, Schedule – I (Import Policy) with immediate effect,” the notification said.

As per the notification, the specified condition on the import of Sulphadiazine API will not be applicable for Advance Authorisation holders, Export Oriented Units (EOUs), Units in Special Economic Zones (SEZs), if the imported goods are not sold in the Domestic Tariff Area (DTA).
