Govt puts restrictions for Importing Certain Goods from Bangladesh to India
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has recently issued an official notification regarding the port restrictions imposed on certain Bangladeshi goods imported into India, like readymade garments, processed food items, and others. However, this port restriction will not apply to goods from Bangladesh that are passing through India on their way to Nepal or Bhutan. These port restrictions have come into effect immediately.
A directive issued through Notification No. 07/2025-26, dated 17th May 2025, has come into effect immediately. It outlines the following port restrictions:
- All types of ready-made garments from Bangladesh can only be imported through Nhava Sheva and Kolkata seaports. They are not allowed through any land ports.
- The import of the following items from Bangladesh is not allowed through any Land Customs Stations (LCSs) or Integrated Check Posts (ICPs) in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Mizoram, and also not allowed through LCS Changrabandha and Fulbari in West Bengal: Fruit or fruit-flavored and carbonated drinks, processed food items, cotton and cotton yarn waste, plastic and PVC finished goods (except pigments, dyes, plasticizers, and granules used by local industries), and wooden furniture.
- These restrictions do not apply to the import of fish, LPG, edible oil, and crushed stone from Bangladesh.
