GST Appellate Tribunal: GST Panel Appeals for setting Tribunal Bench

A Committee of Tax Professionals and Traders urged the State Government to establish the GST Appellate Tribunal in Indore.

A group of tax consultants and traders formed the GST Action Committee and presented a memorandum to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Bhopal, requesting that the state government send a proposal to the Centre to establish a tribunal bench in Indore.

The tribunal is the second level of appeal, where orders of the first appellate and revisional authorities are challenged. In the absence of the tribunal, taxpayers must file writs in the high court or pay the disputed GST demands under protest.

According to AK Lakhotia, general secretary of the GST Action Committee, “Indore is a hub for trade and business in the state. In the city, there is a high court and the headquarters of the state’s GST department. There are numerous reasons for locating the tribunal in Indore.”

Lakhotia continued, “Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has assured us to take the matter forward with the central government to form the tribunal in Indore.”
