The 56th meeting of the GST Council, chaired by Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt Nirmala Sitharaman, is ongoing in New Delhi. The GST Council is currently discussing on improving GST compliance for Taxpayers. One of the important topics of discussion is the proposal to bring automatic return filing.
Under the automatic return filing, the GST portal will auto-fill most details of your return using data already available, reducing the manual work. The aim is to reduce the compliance issues with the GST system. The ease of compliance is one of the 4-Pillar Strategies highlighted in the GST 2.0 vision. Apart from this, the council is also discussing the difficulties faced by taxpayers in GST Registration and Refunds.
