GST Intelligence signs MOU with National Forensic Sciences University to curb GST Evasion
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of digital forensic laboratories, as well as for the sharing of information and knowledge, the advancement of technology, and the development of skills in the field of digital forensics, was signed today by the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) and the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI). The Pr. Director General of DGGI, Shri Surjit Bhujabal, and Dr. J. M. Vyas, Vice Chancellor of NFSU, Gandhinagar, signed the MoU.
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs' (CBIC) top intelligence agency, DGGI, is responsible for gathering and disseminating information as well as for implementing the required controls to prevent GST evasion. The Indian Parliament created the NFSU as an institution of national importance to advance forensic science education and research. The first and only forensic sciences institute, NFSU is equipped with cutting-edge digital forensics equipment and the capacity to examine and analyse digital evidence. With multiple nations and their institutions, as well as national organisations including the Enforcement Directorate, DRDO, and Central Bureau of Investigation, it has created digital forensics collaboration.
Since it is the CBIC's top investigation division, DGGI makes great use of data analysis techniques and cutting-edge technology to uncover serious tax fraud and dismantle massive false invoice networks. It also apprehends numerous perpetrators in these situations. This MoU will strengthen the DGGI's investigative and digital forensic capabilities and help the organisation bring successful cases to trial and obtain guilty verdicts. In addition to protecting government revenues and plugging leaks, swift and effective convictions of significant tax offenders also support trade facilitation by guaranteeing a fair tax regime to the honest tax payer. For DGGI, this will be a crucial step towards acquiring the necessary physical infrastructure, skill sets, and expertise in the field of digital forensics.
The MoU will make it easier for DGGI and NFSU to create digital forensic labs, collaborate on research and training initiatives, and mutually support one another with technical needs.
