GST Officer Arrested by CBI for Demanding Bribe for issuing GST Registration Certificate
The CBI detained a Goods and Services Tax inspector assigned to Karur after he demanded a bribe of 5,000 from a shopkeeper. On Sunday, he appeared before the CBI court and was remanded into custody till July 8.
In order for V Ayyappan to give a registration certificate for his new company, the accused, Sube Singh, made illegal demands of him. Sube Singh sought 10,000 to grant the certificate after inspecting the suggested spot, according to Ayyappan's complaint to the CBI. The official decreased it to 5,000 since he refused. The CBI initiated a case under section 7 of the PC Act 1988 amendment based on his complaint. After a CBI investigator confirmed the violation, the GST official was taken into custody by the CBI Madurai.
