GST Raid: Flower Seller and Transport Company surrendered Rs.60 lakh and Rs.2.90 crore as Tax; GST in action of continuous raid
After the formation of the new BJP government in Chhattisgarh, the GST department of the state has launched an attack on tax evaders. Raids are being conducted continuously in the state and amounts ranging from lakhs to crores are being surrendered. GST department officials said that new officers have been appointed in the enforcement wing to stop tax evasion.
The wing is constantly inspecting not only business places but also e-way bills on every major route around the state.
Meanwhile, Rs.24 lakh has been recovered from two vehicles after reviewing the e-way bill. Four vehicles have been seized, and additional action is being taken. Coal and MS wire were transported without an e-way bill in the vehicles used to collect taxes and penalties. The government is keeping a close eye on those who create bogus firms and transport goods in their name.
This time the department has changed its strategy and by doing forward backward analysis, action is being taken by reaching the source of the transported goods.
On the basis of an e-way bill, the Enforcement Wing raided Roop Lakshmi Private Limited in Raipur. When discrepancies were discovered in the stock, the operator accepted his mistake and surrendered the Rs.50 lakh tax on the spot. Further proceedings are currently underway in which more tax is likely to be collected. Similarly, Rs.30 lakh was recovered from an anonymous warehouse. Goods worth Rs.10,000 have been seized.
The department is detecting theft with modern IT tools. The department monitors all suspicious supplies. Based on a review of data gathered via IT tools, the State GST discovered a network of fake businesses that claimed Rs.45 crore in fake ITC in 2022-23 alone.
Action is currently going on against these bogus firms, ITC worth Rs.20 crore has been blocked in this case.
Rs.2.9 crores were recovered on the spot by the Enforcement Wing in Korba by raiding Kandahari Transport. GST department officials said that the investigation in this case is still going on and more tax is likely to be collected. The GST raid squad also raided an event manager and decorator named Flower Queen in Raipur. The flower queen was not paying tax by stating in her return that she was selling flowers, despite the fact that decorations are subject to an 18% GST.
The Flower Queen has deposited Rs.60 lakh. GST department officials informed NPG News that such operations will now be regular. Officials said that emphasis is being laid on IT-based investigations for transparency.
