The Gujarat State Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department is cracking down on traders suspected of engaging in tax evasion. On May 14 and 15, 2025, officers raided 83 locations in the state to halt illicit business operations and protect government revenue.
Based on specific information, officials of the department initiated the raids on Wednesday, May 14th, against 13 utensil traders in Ahmedabad. The investigations revealed that these companies were selling and purchasing goods without creating proper bills to evade paying GST. During the searches, officers found unrecorded stock and raw accounting records.
The action continued on Thursday, May 15th, with a larger operation covering 70 locations that are connected to tobacco traders in Vijapur, Unjha, and Unawa. The State GST Department, in a statement, repeated its commitment to protecting government revenue and the genuine taxpayers.
