GSTN Puts Proposed e-Way Bill Enhancements on Hold; Existing Process Remains Unchanged:

GSTN has kept the proposed e-Way Bill enhancements on hold until further notice, allowing taxpayers and transporters to continue using the existing system without any changes.
GSTN Withdraws Earlier Advisories and FAQs

The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has issued an advisory dated July 29, 2026, announcing that, as of now, they are keeping the recently proposed e-Way Bill enhancements on hold until further notice.
The GSTN had previously issued certain advisories dated June 9, 2026, and June 17, 2026, informing taxpayers and businesses about the upcoming amendments to the e-Way Bill system.
As per those advisories, proposed enhancements were scheduled to take effect from August 01, 2026. However, as per the latest advisory, those enhancements have been kept on hold. The GST authorities had also released detailed Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on July 2, 2026, to help stakeholders understand the new features.
The latest released advisory dated June 29, 2026, reads, "GSTN had earlier issued advisories dated 9th June 2026 and 17th June 2026 regarding certain proposed enhancements to the e-Way Bill system, with the scheduled date of implementation as 1st August 2026. Detailed FAQs relating to these enhancements were also issued on 2nd July 2026."
The GSTN also clarified that, as these proposed e-Way Bill Enhancements will not be implemented on the scheduled date, the taxpayers, transporters, and other stakeholders do not need to make any changes to their systems or production environment based on the earlier advisories.
Further stated, all the related advisories to these proposed enhancements, along with the FAQs, will be withdrawn from the GST Portal. Consequently, all the concerned stakeholders have been advised to continue using the existing e-Way Bill system without any modifications until GSTN issues a fresh communication regarding the implementation of the proposed changes.
