Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) announced on Wednesday that a Haryana GST appeals authority has upheld Rs.139.3 crore tax demand against the company.
"The Commissioner of Appeals has passed an order for the period July 2017 to August 2022 upholding the demand of Rs.1,393 million, in a matter of tax liability under reverse charge basis on certain services," according to a regulatory filing by MSI.
The company had paid the tax amount prior to the issuance of the show cause notice on September 28, 2023, it stated. The largest carmaker in the country announced that it will file an appeal against the appellate order with the Tribunal.
The order will have no significant impact on the company's financial, operational, or other activities, it stated. On Wednesday, Maruti Suzuki shares closed 0.35% higher at Rs.11,963.15 a share on the BSE.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited is a publicly listed Indian subsidiary of Japanese automaker Suzuki Motor Corporation. It is the largest automobile manufacturer in India, specialising in small cars.
