HAL is one of the oldest and biggest aerospace and defense businesses in the world today. It was founded on December 23, 1940. HAL started producing airplanes in 1942 under license for the Indian Air Force, producing the Harlow PC-5, Curtiss P-36 Hawk, and Vultee A-31 Vengeance.
